This month's top spot goes to one of our recent Recordings of the Week: Vox Luminis's imaginative reconstruction of one of the concerts which Buxtehude curated in Lübeck as part of his ‘Abendmusik' series and which the young Johann Sebastian Bach travelled several hundred miles on foot to attend (you can read David's full review of the album here).
After topping the chart back in April, Rachel Podger’s effervescent Four Seasons with Brecon Baroque is sitting pretty at No. 3 for the second month in a row, closely followed by the first-ever audio recording of John Adams’s Doctor Atomic (conducted by the composer and with Gerald Finley in the title-role). Other newcomers to the Top Ten include Barrie Kosky’s imaginative new staging of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger from last year’s Bayreuth Festival, and two superb piano-recitals (an all-Liszt programme from Francesco Piemontesi, and an eclectic collection of miniatures inspired by dreams and reveries from Stephen Hough).
