Our best-seller of the month is Daniil Trifonov's celebration of the Russian 'Silver Age' on Deutsche Grammophon, featuring solo works by Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Scriabin and piano concertos (with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra) by the latter two composers; reviewing the album early last month, Katherine was impressed by his 'Nijinsky-like grace' in extracts from Stravinsky's Firebird and Petrushka and the 'cinematic sheen' of the Mariinsky strings in the Scriabin concerto.
New seasonal discs, unsurprisingly, feature prominently in the top 20, with The Choral Scholars of University College Dublin's Be all Merry at No. 6, Siglo d'Oro's Christmas in Puebla at No. 10, and Jonas Kaufmann's It's Christmas (complete with controversial Mariah Carey cover!) at No. 13; check in tomorrow for our '12 Discs of Christmas' 2020...
