Our best-seller of the month was already gaining considerable traction in the August chart, which was published just three days after its release – John Wilson’s debut recording of Korngold with the newly reformed Sinfonia of London on Chandos was one of our summer Recordings of the Week, and has since been described as ‘a promise of great things to come’ by The Sunday Times. It’s been a strong month for the independent British record-label in general, with the second volume of British Tone Poems from Rumon Gamba and the BBC Philharmonic maintaining its foothold in the Top Ten and Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D jumping in at No. 8 after its release last Friday – all three titles are of course included in our current offer marking Chandos’s fortieth anniversary, which runs until 7th October.
