For the first time in the history of the annual Presto Chart, it was a debut recording which proved our best-selling title of 2022 - the young Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä's set of the complete Sibelius symphonies with the Oslo Philharmonic on Decca, which was described as 'electrifying and often revelatory' by BBC Music Magazine and deemed 'uber-auspicious' by Gramophone. Mäkelä has two equally exciting recording-projects planned for 2023, details of which we hope to be able to share very soon...
Our Top 10 also included two entries from the super-prolific John Wilson and his Sinfonia of London on Chandos, Mitsuko Uchida (whose wonderfully witty Diabelli Variations on Decca come in at No. 3), and our best-selling artist of 2020 and 2021 Víkingur Ólafsson - who sits at No. 4 with his beautifully-crafted 'fan-letter' to György Kurtág on Deutsche Grammophon.
