Krystian Zimerman's complete Beethoven piano concertos with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle on Deutsche Grammophon tops the July chart by some margin - recorded at LSO St Luke's last December and live-streamed on DG Stage after plans for concerts with live audiences were scuppered by lockdown restrictions, the performances radiate what James described as 'a palpable feeling of joy and elation about the very act of being able to make music' in his full review of the recording earlier this month.
