Stephen LaytonBack in July, we at Presto (like much of the classical world) were excited to hear the news that the British label Hyperion had last entered the streaming world. Two hundred of the most critically-hailed recordings appeared on streaming services at the time, and the remainder - about two thousand all told - have been collected into ‘chapters’, each with a theme reflecting one particular aspect of Hyperion’s incredible musical vision, to be released fortnightly.

The latest chapter, ‘Choral Giants’, comprises the complete recordings of some of Britain’s foremost choirs and vocal consorts: Polyphony, the Choir of Trinity College Cambridge, the Gesualdo Six, the Holst Singers and the Corydon Singers. The performances range from evergreen cornerstones of the repertoire to explorations of neglected masterpieces. Here are just twenty of these fantastic recordings…
