Featuring Harold Arlen's suite from The Wizard of Oz, Max Steiner's suite from Now, Voyager, Korngold's Overture for The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, Franz Waxman's suite from Rebecca, and the Transylvanian March and Embassy Waltz from My Fair Lady, John Wilson and Sinfonia of London's Hollywood Soundstage proved our most popular title of the month (and indeed is already among our top ten best-selling albums for the entire year to date, despite having only been released three weeks ago!).
My colleague James (who reviewed the album for us on release-day) had the pleasure of John's company on the latest episode of the Presto Podcast, where the two discussed Sinfonia of London's heritage, the 'friendly professional rivalry' between Steiner and Korngold, exactly how John goes about creating the right sound for each individual composer on the album, and the orchestra's upcoming Rachmaninov recording (due out on Chandos at the end of October)...
