About
Many of Richard Strauss´s compositions had their world premiere in Dresden and the composer dedicated An Alpine Symphony to the Dresden orchestra. May 2015
[The performance of Eine Alpensinfonie] underlines primarily the work's philosophical underpinnings and its symphonic logic; others might offer more thrills (and spills), but few offer such coherence…[the Strauss songs] are distinguished primarily by [Anja Harteros's] sheer musicality, the phrasing and the intelligent use of words…Rihm's own Ernster Gesang provides a suitably sincere and autumnal opening to what was clearly an outstanding concert.

[Harteros] sings the songs marvellously...throughout the performance her tone is gorgeous...Eine Alpensinfonie receives a very fine performance too. Thielemann is far too fastidious a conductor to adopt a sensationalist or ‘picture postcard’ style in this work. Instead he offers a finely controlled performance.
