About
Alexandre Tansman was a close and lifelong friend of both Stravinsky and Milhaud and the pieces on this disc, Stèle and Élégie, are dedicated to these composers respectively. Throughout his extensive and multifaceted oeuvre, reminiscences not only of these composers, but also of Polish folk music and Asian pentatonic music can be clearly found.
Tansman composed his Concert Piece for the Left Hand whilst in American exile in 1943 but left it merely in the form of a piano score. For sixty-five years it remained unpublished until the Polish composer Piotr Moss produced a congenial orchestration in 2008 and cpo present the première recording.
