Awards,
Grammy Winners 2018
Since 1959, the Grammy Awards (presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) have been one of the major events in the global record-industry year; held at Madison Square Gardens in New York, the 60th annual ceremony last night was a typically star-studded affair, with live performances from artists including Patti LuPone, Elton John, Rihanna, and - flying the flag for classical – British early music ensemble Stile Antico.
Though classical music isn't the primary focus of the Awards (Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Foo Fighters were among the headlining winners this year), coveted 'golden gramophones' are still awarded in several classical categories. Some of our personal favourites from the last twelve months or so feature (including Barbara Hannigan’s mesmerising album of Berio, Berg and Gershwin, Crazy Girl Crazy, and Daniil Trifonov’s astonishing Liszt Transcendental Études which was one of our Recordings of the Year in 2016), but there are also a few fascinating albums which had slipped under our radar!
