About

Soprano Lisette Oropesa presents her solo debut album Ombra Compagna, a kaleidoscope of concert arias by Mozart, whose music is very dear to her heart. These concert arias, written for important sopranos in his life, contain the most lavish and virtuosic music Mozart composed, both for the voice and for the orchestra. The emotional centre of the album is the aria “Ah, lo previdi”, in whichthe most sublime music accompanies the journey between life and death, as the spirit of a loved one slips away. For Oropesa, to be an “Ombra compagna” means to be with someone in spirit, a comforting yet heart-breaking testament of love.

Lisette Oropesa is one of the most in demand lyric coloraturas today, who has triumphed in various roles throughout the most important houses in Europe and the US. She is accompanied by the multi-award-winning players of il pomo d’oro under the baton of Antonello Manacorda, who is a frequent guest at opera houses all over the world

Awards and reviews

August 2021

Oropesa sings with exquisite emotional restraint, subtly shading her vibrato and colouring her mezzo range with a Schwarzkopf-like radiance and intensity.-

Nov/Dec 2021

Her intonation is well-nigh perfect and she brings character to these rarely heard concert pieces. It may be an advantage to listen to just a few at a time so that each mini-drama is fresh to the ears. She is carefully supported by the Baroque band Il pomo d’oro with its spritely and occasionally rasping accompaniments.

August 2021

Unlike Aloysia, whose voice was reportedly small, Oropesa combines high-wire coloratura brilliance with a lyric fullness and depth…[her] vocal finesse and dramatic insight make this a debut recital of rare pedigree.

7th May 2021

Oropesa delivers the dizzying roulades and explosed high staccatos of the twelve-year-old Mozart's 'A Berenice' with absolute ease, and an exuberance which matches the composer’s own…There’s more to Oropesa than coloratura fireworks, though, and the rest of the programme affords her ample opportunity to demonstrate just what a versatile singer she is…With plenty of bite and rasp in the strings (and some especially glorious horn-playing) Il Pomo d’Oro under Antonello Manacorda provide scintillating support throughout.

6th June 2021

There is an instrumental quality to her beguiling soprano that makes light of the demands of these mini-masterpieces...Oropesa’s dazzling debut recital whets the appetite for more.
