About
This album celebrates the first operatic recital for the buffo baritone role in the history of Universal Classics Group. The only album Decca had 50 years ago for this kind of voice was a compilation with Fernando Corena.
Paolo Bordogna, “probably the best buffo baritone around” (E.Girardi, Corriere della Sera) began specializing on this vocal genre 5 years ago, under the guidance of Ernesto Palacio.
This recording is a story spanning two centuries of arias for this repertoire, ranging from Cimarosa and Mozart to Nino Rota.
Beyond the acting and miming ability, together with excellent technique required to perform endless tongue twisters, Paolo lends himself readily to singing both characters in the duet from Don Pasquale!
Recorded in Parma with an Italian orchestra by the dream team John Fraser and Jonathan Stokes that grants top Decca sound, this record is including roles that can be sung at their best only from an Italian mother tongue.
Paolo is now active and appreciated worldwide. He recently sang in Paris (Don Bartolo), Milano (La Scala), Niece (Elisir d’Amore), Torino (Turco in Italia), with upcoming performances in US, Germany and Australia.
“Paolo Bordogna with his beautiful voice is one of Italy’s finest comic singer/actors. Every Bordogna movement is a musical delight” - Jack Buckley, Seen and Heard International.

August 2015
Bordogna rattles and prattles his way through this programme of comic arias with an easy fluency...He sings cleanly and sometimes impressively; the top of the voice, for example, can show a ringing, incisive quality. It can also, however, show a tendency towards slight unsteadiness.

There’s plenty of contrasting pace and tone here — the comic meat comes in all sorts of different cuts, and Bordogna clearly knows his way round a buffo character’s tongue-twisting patter...The baritone’s voice is warm, supple and muscular. And he really sings through the bel canto arias of Rossini or Donizetti.
