About

The outstanding, and tragically brief, career of New Zealand-born bass Oscar Natzke was interrupted by war service in the Canadian navy, and ultimately by his premature death aged only 39, after collapsing during a New York City Opera performance of ‘Die Meistersinger’ in 1951. These recordings, made between 1939 and 1943, nevertheless give a clear idea of his amazing voice, in all kinds of repertoire, and will be of great interest to vocal enthusiasts.
