Angela HewittBack in July 2023, we at Presto (like much of the classical world) were excited to hear the news that the British label Hyperion had last entered the streaming world. Two hundred of the most critically-hailed recordings appeared on streaming services at the time, and the remainder - about two thousand all told - have been collected into ‘chapters’, each with a theme reflecting one particular aspect of Hyperion’s incredible musical vision, to be released fortnightly.

The latest chapter focuses squarely on the pianists Angela Hewitt and Howard Shelley - both stalwarts of the label for many years. Hewitt's acclaimed interpretations of Bach, Beethoven and earlier composers such as Rameau and Couperin sit side-by-side with Shelley's dauntless work on the Classical Piano Concerto and Romantic Piano Concerto series, which have brought to light incredible quantities of magnificent but neglected repertoire - Dreyschock, Hiller, Kalkbrenner, Pixis and other names you might not have heard before, but whose acquaintance it's definitely worth making.
