Bamberger Symphoniker, Jakub Hrůša

Described by his Vienna Conservatory classmate Gustav Mahler as 'the founder of the new symphony as I understand it', Hans Rott submitted the first movement of his Symphony in E major for a composition contest in 1878, where a largely hostile panel was rebuked by Rott's organ-teacher Bruckner: 'Do not laugh, gentlemen, of this man you will hear great things yet!'. The complete work is presented here alongside Mahler's Blumine and Bruckner's Symphonisches Präludium.

Released 14th October.

Hilary Hahn (violin), Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Andrés Orozco-Estrada

Recorded immediately after lockdown, Hahn describes this project as 'my return after an extended time out of the spotlight', observing that 'rediscovering my voice felt like the time following an eclipse'; the album comprises Dvořák’s and Ginastera’s violin concertos plus Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy.

Released 7th October.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Steven Osborne (piano)

Five years on from a recording of Images, Estampes and Children's Corner which was described as 'irresistible' by both The Sunday Times and Classical Source, Osborne returns to Debussy with a programme which opens with the Danse bohémienne from 1880 and closes with Les soirs illuminés par l'ardeur du charbon, composed during the bitter winter of 1916-17 and given to the composer's coal merchant in exchange for fuel. Also includes the Suite Bergamasque, Deux arabesques and Images oubliées.

Released 7th October.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC, Hi-Res+ FLAC

Alina Ibragimova (violin)

Following her astonishing recording of the Paganini Caprices last year (described as 'inimitable, unforgettable and cherishable' by BBC Music Magazine and praised in The Guardian for the 'addictive variety, grace and insouciance' of her playing), Ibragimova continues her exploration of unaccompanied repertoire with the less technically formidable but equally inventive set of Twelve Fantasias which Telemann composed in the 1730s.

Lang Lang (piano)

The pianist remarks that childhood encounters with these films 'led to my life-long love of classical music'.

Les Talens Lyriques, Christophe Rousset

Composed in 1686 (three decades before Handel's popular work on the same subject, and just a few months before Lully's death), Lully's final completed opera makes especially imaginative use of the orchestra in depicting the terror inspired by the cyclops Polyphemus and his murderous jealousy of the love between the sea-nymph Acis and the nymph Galatea.

Released 14th October.
