Decades in Song
An exciting new series by the independent label Vivat is on the way - the 'Decades' project is set to offer us a whistle-stop tour of the development of song in nineteenth century, via ten recitals featuring a stellar team of singers. Volume 1, covering 1810-1820, juxtaposes the acclaimed masters of Lieder, Schubert and Beethoven, with their lesser-known contemporaries Sor, Viotti and Tomášek to give a fuller picture of the world of European song in this decade.
This volume's singers include Florian Boesch and Michael Schade; future instalments have Sarah Connolly, John Mark Ainsley, Christopher Maltman and Angelika Kirchschlager lined up, all accompanied by pianist Malcolm Martineau (whose brainchild this fascinating project is).
Volume 1 is due out on 20 May 2016, with the others to follow at roughly four-monthly intervals - and we've also got an exclusive interview with Malcolm on the way, so watch this space for the inside story on the project!
