Coleman Hawkins was 60 when he made this, and he sounds like a man with nothing left to prove and plenty left to say. Wrapped Tight was cut for Impulse! in 1965 and was his last album as leader released in his lifetime. Bob Thiele produced a crack band for the occasion with Bill Berry and Snooky Young on trumpets, Urbie Green on trombone, Barry Harris on piano. The set moves from film themes like 'Intermezzo' to 'Red Roses for a Blue Lady,' 'I Won't Dance' and his own 'She's Fit.' Verve's Acoustic Sounds reissue is mastered from the original tapes so it sounds top-notch.
