Acid Jazz & Nu-Jazz

Acid Jazz & Nu-Jazz

Acid jazz is a genre that incorporates elements of funk, soul, and hip-hop. Originating in London clubs during the 'rare groove' movement of the 1980s, the term itself was coined by DJ Gilles Peterson. Acid jazz can sometimes cross over into styles like jazz-funk, neo-soul, and jazz rap. Nu jazz is a more modern subgenre that developed out of acid jazz, but with a greater influence on electronic elements, and can be more experimental in nature.
