The latest jazz releases include the latest installation of In Common by Walter Smith III and Matthew Stevens, saxophonist Melissa Aldana's Blue Note label debut, and British saxophonist Brandon Allen playing the music of Stanley Turrentine. Norwegian pianist Helge Lien returns with another trio record, jazz trio Phronesis' Alive enjoys a deluxe reissue on Edition Records, and Dave Arch & John Parricelli cement their longstanding musical friendship on True Colours.

A hybrid album of studio and live recordings, Norwegian pianist Helge Lien - alongside still somewhat fresh bandmates Johannes Eick and Knut Aalefjær - channels Bill Evans and Esbjorn Svensson on Revisited. A must for fans of traditional piano trio jazz.

Walter Smith III, Matthew Stevens, Kris Davis, Dave Holland & Terri Lyne Carrington

The third collaboration between Walter Smith III and Matthew Stevens, featuring an ever-changing cast of guests that has included Linda May Han Oh and Nate Smith in the past, this time around the pair are joined by Kris Davis, Dave Holland, and Terri Lyne Carrington. Across fifteen tracks, In Common III features the pair's longest and most improvised recordings, as well as bringing back their concept of 'one-page songs' written for specific musicians.

Making her Blue Note records debut following her appearance as part of the jazz collective ARTEMIS, Santiago-born, Brooklyn-based saxophonist and composer Melissa Aldana's 12 Stars explores ideas of family, acceptance, and self-love, and features production and guitar contributions from Lage Lund.

Dave Arch & John Parricelli

Two long-time collaborators, pianist Dave Arch and guitarist John Parricelli have worked with a number of musicians across their musical careers - Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, and Kenny Wheeler just to name a few - and also bring on percussionist Paul Clarvis throughout the record for 12 original pieces.

UK-based saxophonist Brandon Allen's latest recording with Ubuntu Music draws inspiration - and choice of material - from American saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, specifically his run of albums on Blue Note and CTI, as well as pop and rock songs Turrentine covered in the 60s and 70s.
