October 2022
Both [the Thalberg and Liszt paraphrases] are delivered with Batsashvili’s trademark expressiveness and finely calibrated control, and in the Liszt she finds a way to let her sound unfurl like an opening flower...The most intriguing track is her account of Liszt’s seldom-performed Die Loreley, fleetingly seductive and disappearing like a will o’ the wisp.
October 2022
In general I feel Batsashvili is at her best where lyricism is called for, especially in the mid-lower registers (as in the Schubert/ Liszt ‘Ständchen’ and the Schubert/Strauss Kupelwieser-Walzer), and flexibility of phrasing (as in her Bellini/Thalberg Caprice).
6th August 2022
Throughout, this is outstanding playing, the programme thoughtfully constructed.
