January 2022
Their strong identification with the [Barber] Sonata is immediately evident in this recording. They bring a remarkable unanimity of ensemble to the dialogue and make light work of some rhythmically complex passages. But they also demonstrate a convincing mastery of the Sonata’s continually fluctuating tempos and the wide gamut of emotions that encompass its three movements.
March/April 2022
[Rachmaninov] The secret weapon in this performance is Isata, who I think really might be gifted. She plays the piano part with impressive musicality and technique. [Barber] He is strongest in the Adagio, where his legato line is beautiful, and Isata brings excitement to the finale with bold playing that her brother matches, even though she’s in the lead.
November 2021
[In the Adagio of the Barber] Sheku’s playing reaches the sort of lofty emotional peak you’d have expected from a du Pré or a Navarra.
5th November 2021
The Rachmaninov sonata proves a wonderful illustration of how these two very different musical personalities complement one another. Isata is the more assertive, extrovert presence throughout, yet she never overwhelms her brother’s predominantly soft-grained sound...And as throughout the programme, there’s a wonderful sense of give-and-take as the players pass musical ideas from hand to hand.
