This unusual work tells the story of the nocturnal combat between the Christian knight Tancredi and the Muslim Clorinda: a strange and breathtaking confrontation where extreme passions are expressed. Although the initial score was intended to be played by a set of four violas da braccio, cornets and sackbuts used here are perfectly adapted to express the very essence of 'Il Combattimento', due to the fact that these instruments are the most able to imitate the human voice.
