a disc of warmly affecting performances...Behle's voice has a typical German Bach sound in the manner of Schreier or Equiluz, slightly reedy but intense...Heinzmann beautifully combines the rich tone of her metal flute to the fluidity and flexibility one normally assocaites with a wooden one.

Tenor Daniel Behle performs a selection of sacred arias from the cantatas, Passions and other works, including an impassioned 'Geduld'. Anne-Cathérine Heinzmann's nimble playing in the A minor Partita for solo flute is an effective contrast.

For those accustomed to period-style Bach with light tenors, this may come as a shock. Behle is the leading lyric German tenor of the moment and he emulates the style of Fritz Wunderlich, with crisp articulation, an alert sense of rhythm and “operatic” projection of emotional content.

There's no doubt about the beauty of Behle's singing or his remarkable ability to hint at subtle shifts of meaning with each repetition. Some of the numbers don't quite work out of context, however

Throughout, he demonstrates admirable evenness of tone across his range, and the ability to subtly convey the intricacies of religious devotion...Particularly satisfying is "Ich Habe Genug", where silky strings and angelic flute support Behle's light, thoughtful tenor.
