Awards and reviews

March 2007

No single performance can say everything about a great work but this live version of Bruckner's Ninth, recorded in 1993 in Lübeck Cathedral, comes close to embracing everything. It's superbly paced, allowing the orchestral sound time to blossom in the glorious acoustic... There is a personal urgency here, with blazing, majestic intensity at the height of the first movement's final crescendo, yet there are also times when you could be listening to a peaceful meditation on last things.
