Tamara Stefanovich was born in Belgrade in 1973 and studied in her home city, the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, and at Cologne’s Hochschule für Musik und Tanz. Whilst studying at the latter institution, she attended a workshop on Boulez given by Pierre-Laurent Aimard (who subsequently became her life-partner) which awakened a passion for contemporary music which would shape her career; she has worked with composers including Boulez, Kurtág and Eötvös, and premiered music by Harrison Birtwistle, Azeynep Gedizlioğlu, Vassos Nicolaou and Steingrimur Rohloff.

Stefanovich’s discography includes Bartok’s Concerto for Two Pianos (with Aimard, Boulez and the London Symphony Orchestra) on Deutsche Grammophon, numerous recordings from the Ruhr Piano Festival on Avi, and influences – her debut album on Pentatone, consisting of music by Ives, Messiaen, JS Bach and Bartók.
