Gerhild Romberger

Nationality: German

German contralto Gerhild Romberger was born in Sögel and trained at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. She works mainly in oratorio and concert, and is especially acclaimed for her interpretations of Mahler – her discography includes award-winning recordings of Symphony No. 3 with Bernard Haitink and Iván Fischer (‘the contralto of choice for Mahler symphonies’ – Gramophone), the Rückert-Lieder with Alfredo Perl, and Symphony No. 8 with Riccardo Chailly, as well as Beethoven’s Missa solemnis with Philippe Herreweghe, Bach’s St John Passion on Naxos and St Matthew Passion on BR Klassik, and the Christmas Oratorio on raumklang.
