Arcangelo

Arcangelo (Early Music Ensemble)

Arcangelo was formed in 2010 by the British conductor and cellist Jonathan Cohen, and performs repertoire from Monteverdi to Beethoven. Their debut recording of Porpora arias with countertenor Iestyn Davies was released on Hyperion in 2011, and the following year they won a Gramophone Award for Arias for Guadagni (also with Davies); their discography also includes JS Bach’s alto cantatas with Davies (winner of the Baroque Vocal category at the 2017 Gramophone Awards and also a Times Record of the Year), the hugely successful Handel recital Finest Arias for Base Voice with Christopher Purves, Bach violin concertos with Alina Ibragimova and Mozart concertos with Vilde Frang, a Grammy-nominated disc of Buxtehude Trio Sonatas on Alpha, concert-arias by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven with soprano Christiane Karg, and CPE Bach cello concertos with Nicolas Altstaedt, which won a BBC Music Magazine Award in 2017.
