Anna Caterina Antonacci

Anna Caterina Antonacci (Soprano)

Born: 5th April 1961, Bologna

Nationality: Italian

Born in Italy in 1961, Anna Caterina Antonacci performs both soprano and mezzo repertoire, with a particular emphasis on bel canto roles (though she is also an acclaimed Carmen). She trained in Bologna and made her professional debut in Il barbiere di Siviglia in 1986; Rossini has remained central to her repertoire, which includes the title-roles in Semiramide, Zelmira, Ermione, La cenerentola and Elisabetta, regina d’Inghilterra and Ninetta in La gazza ladra; she is also particularly associated with Monteverdi, Handel, Mozart, Donizetti and Berlioz.

Antonacci’s discography includes Berlioz’s Mort de Cléopâtre with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Respighi’s Il tramonto with John Neschling and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège, Era la notte (‘ferociously alive’ – The New York Times), and (on DVD) the title-role in Carmen and Cassandre in Les troyens from Paris and from Covent Garden (‘stylish and genuinely sexy’ – Gramophone).
