Presto Presents…, Presto Presents...Bojan Čičić's Bach

Bojan Čičić performing at Presto MusicNow that we're getting into the swing of hosting and filming live events at our new premises in Leamington Spa, we've created a 'Presto Presents' series on our YouTube channel, featuring highlights from performances and post-match interviews with our visiting artists.

Our most recent guest was Croatian violinist Bojan Čičić, who joined us on Friday 21st July to launch his new recording of Bach's Partitas and Sonatas (recorded at Scotland's Crichton Collegiate Church in 2021 and released on Delphian last month) - an album which had already been described as 'pure violin magic' by The Times, and later prompted The Yorkshire Times to declare that 'this is not just yet another recording of the Partitas; it is the recording'.

Bojan treated us to a short recital featuring the Largo and Allegro assai from the Sonata No. 3 in C major BWV1005 and the Preludio, Gavotte en Rondeau and Gigue from the Partita No. 3 in E major BWV1006 before sitting down to chat with me and our audience-members about his training in Paris, the violin and bow which he used for the recording, the effects of lockdown on performers - and why he chose to present the works on the album in this rather unconventional order...

'Avoiding some violinists’ febrile interpretations, Cicic likes to keeps his dignity, though that doesn’t stop his presto movements from being dizzying....I can’t recall another recent recording where the lingering resonance of the music’s final notes has been so magical.' (The Times *****)

Available Formats: 2 CDs, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

We'll be sharing footage of recent events with Canadian violinist Kerson Leong and with countertenor Alexander Chance & theorbist Toby Carr in our newsletters over the coming weeks, as well as releasing a podcast with Paul Spicer (who joined us in July to discuss his new book Sir Arthur Bliss: Standing out from the Crowd)...

Our calendar for the autumn includes visits from cellist Bruno Philippe and pianist Tanguy de Williencourt, violinist Madeleine Mitchell, and baritone/director Thomas Guthrie & Barokksolistene (who'll be bringing their innovative new production of Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin to us on Friday 24th November). For those of you who live locally, do keep an eye on our events page for details of how to book free tickets once dates are announced...
