Presto CD - 20 new Sony and RCA titles
This week we're especially pleased to resurrect one of the last ever recordings made by the wonderful Slovak soprano Lucia Popp - her third account of Strauss's Four Last Songs, with the London Symphony Orchestra under Michael Tilson Thomas. The recording was made in 1993, just months before her death at the age of 54, and also features Popp's compatriot Edita Gruberova in the Brentano Lieder and Karita Mattila in a selection of orchestral songs. There's also matchless Mozart from Alicia de Larrocha, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Benny Goodman, a dazzling early recital-disc from Evelyn Glennie, and a trio of works inspired by Maeterlinck's Pelléas et Mélisande from Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic.
