These pieces were written for the pianist Kate Ryder and completed in January/February 2018. In the second piece a poem by the Irish artist Derek Shiel (1939-2017) is interjected between the instrumental gestures, and the final piece is notated with a graphic score and accompanied by an optional audio track (field recordings from Tbilisi and Mestia, Georgia, August 2017). The first piece is dedicated to the memory of Derek Shiel, who died while I was working on the ideas in July 2017.

First performed by Kate Ryder, St George's Church Borough, London (Borough New Music) 20th March 2018.
