Mauricio Kagel's Liturgien is a 26-minute work for solo voices, double choir and orchestra. A visit to Jerusalem inspired Kagel to write this work, which uses his own texts in Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, Latin, Russian and German to draw out the common features but also the differences of various religions.
Liturgien was premiered on 2 November 1990 at the Cologne Philharmonie by WDR Sinfonieorchester, conducted by Gary Bertini.
This score (EP 8892) is available as part of the Peters Contemporary Library.
