This classic African-American spiritual expresses hope for a time and place where burdens are relieved. This a cappella arrangement for treble singers employs counterpoint that mirrors the syncopated figures of the original tune. At cadence points, the spirited rhythms subside as voices expand into ethereal colors that will transport the listeners to that heavenly By an' by.
