John Zorn brings together guitarist Matt Hollenberg, bassist Simon Hanes and drummer Ches Smith for Flatlands, a tightly wound set of avant-rock in the vein of Simulacrum and Naked City. Across twelve compact pieces, the trio tear through infectious riffs, atonal melodies, complex rhythms and virtuosic solos, switching direction with startling precision. Intense, playful and frequently extreme, Flatlands pushes the classic guitar-bass-drums setup into increasingly unpredictable territory.
