The mind-melting debut from one of the UK's most influential electronic acts gets a deluxe reissue courtesy of Warp Records on its 25th anniversary.

Warp Records is delighted to announce the release of a very special anniversary edition of Squarepusher's debut album Feed Me Weird Things, virtually 25 years to the day from its original release in '96. First released on the now inactive Rephlex label, the album has not been available on streaming platforms until now and has been out of print for more than a decade. This complete edition has been remastered from the original DATs and features two extra tracks which were first released on the B-side of the Squarepusher Plays… EP and later featured on the original Japanese release of this album. The edition also includes a 16 page booklet with personal photographs, ephemera and candid notes from Tom Jenkinson, throwing light on the early days of his career.

Yet, while his fluid fretless bass flies impressively over tracks such as the frantically funky opener ‘Squarepusher Theme’, as well as ‘The Swifty’, ‘Smedley’s Medley’ and ‘Kodak’ – it’s the then 21-year-old Jenkinson’s soundbarrier busting ‘drill and bass’ beats that really push the envelope, blurring the lines between the played and the programmed to dizzying effect.

It was this combination of live instrumentation and electronic ingenuity that’s led Feed Me Weird Things to retrospectively be labeled an electronic classic, some critics going as far as to laud it as the birth of a subgenre; despite owing much to the sounds of his contemporaries, Squarepusher’s debut is still one of the most unique entries into the electronica canon.
