About
The airshots heard on this album represent aspects of British middle-period jazz at its best. First we find HUMPHREY LYTTELTON in the afterglow of the euphoria inspired by sharing a stage at the Empress Hall with Louis Armstrong's All-Stars on his firstpost-war trip to Britain, then catch up with his re-formed line-up that caused him in many quarters to be looked upon as an apostate. Then we hear a rare early quartet setting for BRUCE TURNER before enjoying SANDY BROWN on top form with hislong-term musical partner AL FAIRWEATHER. Recorded between 1956 and 1960, these superb BBC recordings also feature contributions from JOHN PICARD, FREDDY LEGON, JOHNNY PARKER, JIM BRAY, STAN GRIEG, TONY COE, JIMMY SKIDMORE,EDDIE TAYLOR, JOHN MUMFORD, JOHN ARMATAGE, TIM MAHN, DANNY CRAIG, JOHNNY SCOTT and JASPER LIVESEY.
