The latest jazz releases include Brad Mehldau playing tunes by The Beatles, singer-songwriter Jo Lawry returning to jazz, and reissues of Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis and Art Blakey.

The title says it all really; Brad Mehldau has long made tunes by The Beatles a regular part of his live shows, but all of the material found on Your Mother Should Know are first-time recordings by the pianist, with the closing track - David Bowie's 'Life on Mars?' - a nod to pop songwriters who followed in the Beatles' footsteps.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Jo Lawry

Having released music in more of a singer-songwriter vein with her last two albums Taking Pictures (2015) and The Bathtub and the Sea (2017), vocalist and songwriter Jo Lawry returns to jazz with her first solo album in the genre in over a decade. Returning to the genre with her bandmates bassist Linda May Han Oh and drummer Allison Miller, Lawry performs a songbook of tunes from Cole Porter, Frank Loesser and Vernon Duke.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC

This reissue contains the album Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers With Thelonious Monk, originally released in 1958, along with a live quartet version of 'Bya-Ya' with Monk, Blakey and Johnny Griffin, as well as three live television recordings from after the album's release. This album also marked the only recorded instance of Monk playing with the Jazz Messengers.

Available Format: CD

Thelonious Monk & Johnny Griffin

In a similar vein to the previous new release, this short-lived quartet was comprised of Thelonious Monk and Johnny Griffin, following the departure of John Coltrane and before Charlie Rouse joined the band. This quartet is captured live at the Five Spot club in New York in 1958, with half of the music originally released across two albums, In Action and Misterioso; as the title suggests, all known recordings from this gig is featured here along with a bonus track 'Coming on the Hudson'.

Available Format: 2 CDs

Ingi Bjarni

Iceland-hailing pianist Ingi Bjarni's second quintet album Farfuglar, recorded with a band of musicians accumulated from around the Nordic countries, showcases the composer's affinities for not only jazz, but Nordic folk songs and electronica.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Miles Davis, Tadd Dameron

This Ezz-thetics reissue features music from Tadd Dameron's Big Ten at the Royal Roost New York City and Miles Davis/Tadd Dameron Quintet at Paris Festival Internation de Jazz, both recorded in 1949 as Dameron and Davis were experimenting with their own large-ensemble lineups.
