The latest crop of jazz releases include an archival live recording of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers from 1962 featuring Curtis Fuller, Wayne Shorter and Freddie Hubbard, as well as a new recording by saxophonist Anthony Ferrara, both out tomorrow on SteepleChase. The latest album from Jazz Is Dead featuring Garrett Saracho drops this week on both black and orange colour vinyl, and reissues by Thelonious Monk and Benny Carter are also amongst the new releasees.

Houston Person

Playing with a hand-picked group of regular bandmates, saxophonist Houston Person's Reminiscing at Rudy's is an homage to his favourite engineer, the well-known Rudy Van Gelder, and features a variety of tunes from slow-paced ballads, blues numbers and up-tempo takes on old classics like 'Moon River'.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers

This 1962 recording of the Jazz Messengers performing in Copenhagen was made shortly after the group expanded to a sextet with the addition of trombonist Curtis Fuller, who joins Wayne Shorter and Freddie Hubbard on the front-line horns.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC

Anthony Ferrara

American saxophonist Anthony Ferrara's latest recording on Steeplechase has him working with his 'dream quartet' featuring pianist Gary Versace, bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Billy Drummond.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC

Garrett Saracho, Adrian Younge, Ali Shaheed Muhammad

The latest in Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad's Jazz Is Dead series sees the duo bringing on-board Chicano-jazz composer and instrumentalist Garrett Saracho, who recently enjoyed a resurgence of interest online in his out-of-print record En Medio, for his first recorded music in decades. Garrett Saracho JID15 releases this week on vinyl.

Benny Carter

Reissued this week both digitally and on vinyl, saxophonist Benny Carter's album Jazz Giant was originally released on Contemporary Records back in 1958, and features contributions from Ben Webster, Frank Rosolino and Barney Kessel.

Thelonious Monk Quartet
