The latest picks for our jazz release round-up include a new recording by the Julia Hülsmann Quartet on ECM and trombonist Dave Sear's debut on Ubutnu Music, as well as a live bootleg collection of early-'80s Miles Davis and a recording of Roland Kirk at Ronnie Scott's in 1963.

Julia Hülsmann Quartet

Julia Hülsmann follows up her 2019 record Not Far From Here with the very same quartet on The Next Door, a collection of largely original compositions inspired equally by '60s modal jazz and contemporary styles.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Rahsaan Roland Kirk

Available Format: Vinyl Record

British trombonist Dave Sear pens a personal work, drawing on his lifelong experiences with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, on his debut album I Always Thought my Thoughts Were Me.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

This 3-CD (or 2-LP) bootleg collection focuses on a divisive point in Miles' career, when he began to experiment with the smoother, more electronic-led sounds of popular music, collected across almost 4 hours of unreleased material. Sidemen on these recordings also include the likes of John McLaughlin, J.J. Johnson, Al Foster, John Scofield and Mike Stern.

Available Format: 3 CDs

Available Format: 2 Vinyl Records

Michel Petrucciani

Originally recorded in 1990, this is a solo recording by French pianist Michel Petrucciani - considered one of the finest of his generation despite suffering from a genetic disease - reissued by Storyville Records. Petrucciani can be heard here playing not only original compositions but also works by Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington, capping the set off with a thirteen-minute medley.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Charles Mingus

This 3-CD set of Charles Mingus compiles the most celebrated and influential recordings recorded in a short four-year period; Pithecanthropus Erectus, The Clown, Blues and Roots, and Mingus Ah Um all make appearances with bonus tracks from the same recording sessions.

Available Format: 3 CDs
