Jazz New Release Round-Up - 2nd June 2022
Some of our picks for recent jazz releases include a reissue of Bill Evans' posthumous classic You Must Believe In Spring, the vinyl release of Kit Downes' Vermillion on ECM, and the latest instalment of Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad's Jazz Is Dead series, this time featuring Jean Carne. Also featured are new releases from Polish free improv label NotTwo and the latest album from Glasgow-based acid-jazzers Nimbus Sextet.
This posthumously-released Evans classic enjoys a reissue on both CD and vinyl this week, originally recorded in mid-1977 with bassist Eddie Gómez and drummer Eliot Zigmund, and also features the later-included 3 bonus tracks, 'Freddie Freeloader', 'Without a Song', and 'All of You'.

This new EP release from Rune Grammofon (currently only available on vinyl) is an interesting one - as FIRE! (sometimes known as FIRE! Orchestra), the trio comprised of Mats Gustafsson (sax), Johan Berthling (bass) and Andreas Werliin (drums), team up with experimental metal guitarist and half of Sunn O))) Stephen O'Malley, as well as David Sandström, the drummer for legendary Swedish punk band Refused. Some easy listening, no doubt.
