New Release Round-up, Jazz New Release Round-Up - 4th November 2021

Recent releases and additions to the Presto Music jazz catalogue include an unreleased live set from Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, a selection of ACT Music’s best bits from the past year, and solo guitar pieces from Matthew Stevens.

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers

A previously unreleased recording taken from Art Blakey & The Jazz Messenger’s first Japanese tour - The Jazz Messengers being one of the first modern jazz groups to tour the country. Blakey is joined here by Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons and Jymie Merritt, and this release includes a booklet featuring photography by Shunji Okura and Hozumi Nakadaira, as well as interviews with members of the band and Japanese music journalists.

Saxophonist Dino Govoni’s third release for Whaling City Sound is also his first in 10 years, focussing his efforts more on session work and work at the Berklee College of Music. An understated musician by nature but an excellent player nonetheless, well-suited to educating the next generation of jazz players.
