New Release Round-up,
Jazz New Release Round-Up - 24th June 2021
This week’s picks for new jazz releases include jazz trio renditions of Richard Wagner, a reunion of French jazz group Belmondia Quintet, and soul-infused nu-jazz from Hiatus Kaiyote.
This curious trio record re-imagines the music of notorious German composer Richard Wagner in comparatively miniscule forms to the original works - all recorded for a trio of piano, double bass and woodwinds.
Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC
BGO Records bring us the first ever CD release of George “Harmonica” Smith’s second album, ...Of the Blues. Smith played harmonica with bluesmen like Muddy Waters and Otis Rush back in the 50s, and recorded a handful of releases during his lifetime, many of which have been unavailable until recently.

London-based saxophonist Alex Western-King releases his debut album on Ubuntu Music tomorrow, with a hand-picked selection of fellow London jazzmen forming his quartet. For his first studio outing, King marries his love of the classic sounds of bebop with the chaos of free jazz.
Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC
Melbourne-based nu-jazz/soul group Hiatus Kaiyote’s new recording on Brainfeeder is their first in six years, following up 2015’s Choose Your Weapon, which earned them their first Grammy nomination. Those familiar with the modern sounds of ‘nu jazz’ will enjoy the smooth grooves and colourful sun-kissed chords - there’s also a special ‘indies-only’ vinyl and glow-in-the-dark vinyl for all you collectors out there.
