The Yamaha YAS-480S is a great up-grade alto saxophone, ideal for an advancing player. It has a rich, broad and expressive sound, ideal for taking your playing to the next level. This silver-plated model with its bright finish is particularly attractive.
The 480 represents Yamaha's usual attention to excellence in build quality, and also benefits from a couple of new features including a new neck receiver modelled on the pro 62 series, to allow for a possible crook upgrade at a later date and a new B-C# connection to ensure a better mechanical performance to add to the already positive and competent key action.
The brass body is left unlacquered and plated with a beautiful bright silver plating. The lack of lacquer does mean that occasional cleaning with a sliver polish cloth is required, although many musicicans prefer the gradual formation of patina that evolves on unlacquered saxophones. The added layer of resonance from the precious metal gives more projection and a wonderful added dimension to the sound. It is important to acknowledge that, although silver cloths are available, the natural process of tarnishing cannot be stopped completely.
