About

A publisher and composer with a sense for authenticity: Johann Anton Andr acquired more than 270 of Mozarts original manuscripts from his widow Constanze among them Don Giovanni, whose overture on this album serves as a prelude to another work from the collection: Mozarts orchestral enhancement of the today underrated Violin Concerto No. 16 by the then brilliant violin virtuoso Giovanni Battista Viotti, regarded as the decisive breakthrough among his concertos. The main work on this album is Johann Anton Andrs grand Symphony in E-flat major, Op. 25 extraordinarily inventive and marked by a highly individual handling of the orchestra, composed in the period surrounding Beethovens Eroica.
