Glass is a touchstone and his works are sprinkled throughout the programme. Diluka’s rubato in Metamorphosis One is effective, as is the impressionistic touch in the Opening from Glassworks.

About

Very different from Shani Diluka’s previous album (dedicated to Proust), but equally intriguing: the solo-piano album brings a different perspective to 20th-century American classical music.

With a jazz-nod to those who worshipped classical music, Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans, in reference to the great American themes of the first pioneers.

Short pieces by Philip Glass (from Etudes), Keith Jarrett (Be My Love), John Cage (Dream), Daft Punk (Veridis Quo), Terry Riley (The Philosopher’s Hand), Bill Evans (Danny Boy), and many more.

Featuring the incredible UK-based Chineke! Orchestra in The Holy Presence of Joan d’Arc by Julius Eastman.
