About

The name of Woldemar Bargiel may be little known today—although he was the half-brother of Clara Schumann, no less—but he was highly regarded by Brahms and the Schumanns. These are two delightful, richly melodic works.

This is music that by its very nature requires gentle coaxing and affectionate warmth to sound its best, and the Leonore responds with playing that possesses a radiant inner glow. Indeed, it is difficult to imagine this music played more captivatingly, captured in beguilingly natural sound by Andrew Keener and David Hinitt.

it is the way these three talented musicians blend together that merits the largest bouquet. More please!

The music here by Bargiel (who was the half-brother of Clara Schumann) is both highly melodic and dramatic and should appeal to any lovers of Romantic chamber music, with the performances here remarkable not only for their unanimity in this most challenging of genres but also for their vitality and drive, especially in the two Scherzo movements.
