About
• Breaking a silence of nearly 270 years: an unexpected revival of Rameau’s Achante et Céphise under the baton of Alexis Kossenko, with Les Chantres du CMBV and Les Ambassadeurs
• Jean-François Marmonte’s libretto combines mythology and fairytale in a single subject, mixing the magical powers of the evil genie, Oroès, with traditional tributes to Venus and Love
• A “commissioned work” for Rameau – there were only 14 performances and no revivals
• Daring in both form and orchestration, the composer makes great demands on the technical skills of the performers
• A world premiere recording starring Sabine Devieilhe, Cyrille Dubois, David Witczak, Judith van Wanroij

Christmas 2021
Sabine Devieilhe and Cyrille Dubois enliven the title roles with fervent exchanges and evenly balanced dialogue; and David Witczak is splendidly menacing as the evil genie, Oroès. In short, this is an invigorating and joyous revival of a musically rich opera.
February 2022
Kossenko’s superb players take in their stride every ingenious surprise and intricate detail that Rameau throws at them. The special qualities of this outstanding recording extend to perfect casting of the four principal roles.
February 2022
This is an issue of considerable importance...In general terms this performance is thoroughly satisfying. Alexis Kossenko has considerable experience with this kind of repertoire and here draws fine playing from his substantial forces…Devieilhe is a charming, youthful-sounding Céphise, at her best in the touchingly pathetic lyricism that pervades much of the role. Her Achante, Cyrille Dubois, is youthfully ardent.
