About
Ginastera – Bernstein – Moussa: Works for Violin and Orchestra is a monumental new album that offers exceptional interpretations of major works. Recorded live in 2019, it includes Ginastera’s Violin Concerto, Op. 30, which requires no fewer than seven percussionists handling some four dozen instruments, Bernstein’s imposing Serenade for Solo Violin, Strings, Harp and Percussion that was inspired by Plato’s Symposium and Moussa’s Violin Concerto “Adrano”, a World Première and an OSM commission.

[Ginastera] Wan rises to the occasion in this performance, bringing the same smoothness we hear in the Serenade. His poise in the opening solo cadenza (which lasts for 6:29) stresses its musicality rather than its performative acrobatics: Late Ginastera needs no extra aggression on the part of the soloist. Nagano coaxes fine playing and interesting textures from his orchestra.
