Josephine Knight makes one of the best cases for the [Schumann] Cello Concerto I’ve heard, and she does so by not dawdling and drawing out its longueurs. Instead of dwelling on the ruminative and somber aspects of the score, she takes a fairly brisk tempo which enables her to dance and pirouette her way lightly through the more rhythmically animated passages, and to sing a sweet and uplifting song rather than a dispirited one in the lyrical passages.

Knight plays with rapturous expression and the recorded sound is vivid. Piatti’s Concertino is very worthwhile.
Classical Music April 2020
Piatti is underrated as a composer. He did not write much, and mostly just for his own instrument, but on this showing the quality was high – not astonishing but quite good enough to stand comparison with the top instrumentalists of that era who wrote for their own performance. The second concerto, premiered in London in 1873, is certainly worth a regular hearing. Josephine Knight has done great service by reviving these works.
