About

After the success of her Deutsche Grammaphon debut which she dedicated to the composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla (together with Giedrė Šlekytė) now lets us discover works by Lithuanian composer Raminta Šerkšnytė: Music of transcendent beauty, harrowing and full of emotional force. A music that combines mystical experience and outbursts of vibrant energy.

To Mirga, working together with Šerkšnytė has a quite special significance: “My connection with Raminta Šerkšnytė’s music is very personal. Probably what fascinates me most is the poetic quality and the mystery of this composer and her work. The ‘Ramintacism’, the minor thirds. Her personal voice.

The album contains a DVD with a documentary about Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla.

Šerkšnytė’s music is free-flowing in its expression, form and range, offering moments of exquisite beauty and quasi mysticism…While we should be careful to avoid a siloed approach to repertoire, there is something magical about hearing contemporary Lithuanian music performed by local experts.

February 2020

Compared to [De profundis's] previous version, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla favours a more spacious and less visceral yet comparably intense approach – audibly relishing this music’s acute contrasts as its earlier anguish becomes progressively diffused towards a sombre and questioning close.
